Odissi dancer based in Seattle, WA

About Chaitee
Chaitee Sengupta has been studying Odissi dance since 1996. The majority of her training has been under the late Asako Takami, and Guru Manoranjan Pradhan. She has performed extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area individually and with Pallavi Dance Group. She was a recipient of the California Traditional Artist Apprenticeship Grant in 2004. Chaitee has taught with Pallavi Dance Group in Oakland, CA and has given Odissi workshops and lecture-demonstrations in public schools and libraries. After moving to Seattle from the San Francisco Bay Area she taught an “Intro to Odissi” course through the ASUW Experimental College in 2005. Seattle area solo performances have included Utsav, Seattle’s annual South Asian Performing Arts Festival and the Northwest Folklife Festival. She has also been a guest performer with the Leela Kathak Dancers.

Style
Odissi (aka Orissi) dance is from the state of Orissa, in Eastern India. The style I have learned is mostly in the vein of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, though I have also learned some repetoire of other Gurus as well.
